316 Ohio Ave: Blueberries are blooming

The blueberries are blooming at 316 Ohio Avenue and so are the azaleas and rosemary.  Ginger and canna lilies are poking through the ground and hydrangeas are leafing out.  The organic garden is seeded with peas, spinach, lettuce, and radishes.  All of this while the live oaks drop their leaves.  Yes, we have fall in the spring here in Valparaiso, Florida.  You can enjoy this great weather out on the brick garden patio.  Listen to the mocking birds and jays and watch the garden come to life.  Soon, the whole garden will be awash in whites and pinks, reds and yellows, and plenty of green.  Sound inviting?  See the listing for 316 Ohio Ave listed by ADDvantage Real Estate.  The folks at ADDvantage have created smart, simple solutions for FSBO listings.

Eglin AFB and Valparaiso, Florida: A Long History

Eglin Air Force Base owes its existence to the City of Valparaiso.  Mr. James Plew leased 137 acres to the city and a small airfield was built.  The field was subsequently given to the federal government and was used as an auxiliary field for Maxwell Army Air Base.   In 1937, Mr. Plew donated an additional 1500 acres for use as a gunnery range and the federal government made 340,000 acres of adjacent land available to the Army Air Corps. This entire area became Eglin Air Force Base.  Eglin and Valparaiso continue to enjoy a good relationship and many residents of the city are active duty or retired military members. This year, Eglin will produce an airshow; its first in more than 6 years.  If you live at 316 Ohio Ave, you’ll be a 7-minute drive from the show.  It promises to be good and will feature the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightening II, both 5th generation fighters.

Valparaiso, Florida: Saturday In the Park

Saturday In the Park is coming soon to Valparaiso.  This wonderful annual festival is held in the Valparaiso Historic district and is sponsored by the Heritage Museum of Northwest Florida.  The Heritage Museum is a wonderful treasure of history involving the Emerald Coast region, specifically Destin and Valparaiso.  Eglin AFB plays a large part in that history as does Hurlburt Field and Duke Field.  Jimmy Doolittle’s Raiders trained here in preparation for their attack on the Japanese mainland.  Saturday In the Park involves music, arts, crafts, homesteading demonstrations and numerous vendors.  It is a great opportunity to view our beautiful old downtown which was designed with three beautiful vistas of the Choctawahatchee Bay at the termination of 3 perpendicular roads.  If you live at 316 Ohio Ave, you’re only a pleasant 7-minute walk away from this wonderful festival.  The house is for sale now.
